 A merchant drove his ass to the seashore to buy salt. He had to cross a stream on the way. While returning his ass accidentally fell into the stream. When he rose up, his load was considerably lighter, as the salt had dissolved into the water.
ஒரு வியாபாரி உப்பு வாங்குவதற்காகத் தன் கழுதையைக் கடற்கரைக்கு ஓட்டிச் சென்றார். போகிற வழியில் ஓர் ஓடை இருந்தது. திரும்பி வரும்போது கால்தவறிக் கழுதை ஓடையில் விழுந்தது. தண்ணீரில் உப்பு கரைந்து போனதால், கழுதை எழுந்த போது சுமையின் கனம் மிகவும் குறைந்திருந்தது.
The merchant went back and refilled his sacks with a larger quantity of salt than before. The ass fell down on purpose again in the same spot and felt lighter. He brayed triumphantly at this.
வியாபாரி திரும்பிப்போய், இன்னும் கூடுதலாக உப்பைத் தனது கோணிகளில் நிரப்பிக்கொண்டான். வேண்டுமென்றே கழுதை மீண்டும் விழுந்து தனது பாரத்தைக் குறைத்துக் கொண்டது. எனவே அது வெற்றிகரமாகக் கனைத்தது. |

The merchant saw through his trick and drove him for the third time to the coast. There he bought sacks of sponge instead of salt.
வியாபாரிக்குக் கழுதையின் தந்திரம் புரிந்துபோகவே, மூன்றாம் முறையாக கடற்கரைக்கு அதை ஓட்டிச் சென்றான். அங்கே உப்புக்கு பதிலாகக் கடற்பஞ்சு மூட்டைகளை வாங்கினான்.
The ass played its trick again on reaching the stream. But the sponges had become swollen with water, greatly increasing his load.
ஓடையை அடைந்ததும், மீண்டும் அதே தந்திரத்தைக் கழுதை செய்தது. ஆனால் கடற்பஞ்சு தண்ணீரை உறிஞ்சிக்கொண்டு மிகவும் கனத்துப் போனது.
And thus his trick recoiled on him, for he now carried on his back a double burden.
தான் செய்த தந்திரம் தன்மீதே பாயவே, கழுதை இரண்டு பங்கு பாரத்தைச் சுமந்தது.
